Along with the heat of Kansas Speedway came WINS and a TRACK RECORD for Joseph Burton-Harris

After weeks and weeks of rain, Kansas Speedway flooded with sunshine at the SCCA Majors event held this weekend. The new roval course was exciting for all competitors including young Formula Mazda sensation Joseph Burton-Harris.

Qualifying began with another POLE to JBH at a spectacular time of 1.22.893 nearly 1.3 seconds faster than the next competitor.

Race 1 began with the field shuffled as they went 4 wide into the braking zone for turn 1. All competitors raced with respectful aggression, sorting themselves by the end of Turn 2. Fans watched some exciting dicing until finally Joseph Burton-Harris took the lead and made a gap that could not be broken by the drafting tow Kansas Speedway offered.

JBH won Race 1 by 4.5 seconds recording the new Kansas Speedway Formula Mazda lap record time of 1.23.279.

Race 2 began much like Race 1 with fans watching some exciting passing and 2 wide drafts on the Kansas oval between the Formula Mazda drivers. Unfortunately it was marred by multiple cautions that interrupted the final result. Joseph Burton-Harris passed the very competitive 2012 National Champion Alan McCallum for the lead on lap 15, however a caution ended the race and the win was awarded one lap earlier to McCallum.

Kansas Speedway is a beautiful facility and the Formula Mazda teams put on a great show for the crowd. Joseph Burton-Harris impressed as always alongside Alan McCallum and will be ones to watch at the Daytona Speedway National Runoffs later in the year.
