Practice is always more fun at Daytona International Speedway

Joseph Burton-Harris completed practice for the SCCA Runoffs presented by Garmin VIRB this weekend. 7 sessions over 2 days on the 3.56 mile Road Course has been a memory JBH will never forget.

The 31 degree banking is everything you imagine it to be’ comments Joseph Burton-Harris. ‘When you run the very top you hear the air buffer against the side of the car and coming out of turn 4 you see the famous Grandstands and just say to yourself, I cannot believe I am here doing this…Amazing!’

The practice sessions have been centered around testing different aerodynamic options available on the #132 Formula Mazda. With around 1.8 miles of the 3.56-mile course consisting of the banked oval, aerodynamics is everything. Even the Go-Pro usually attached to the side of the car has been removed to maximize aerodynamic flows.

Practice times have differed depending on the track conditions with Florida weather equating to a Sydney summer’s day…afternoon thunderstorms and slippery mornings after night rain.

  • Fastest Lap: 1.59.4 secs
  • Average Speed: 109 mph .. 176 kph
  • Top Speed: 151 mph .. 243 kph

We have tried a lot of different things in practice and the Texas Autosports, Moses Smith Racing crew have worked very hard preparing the car for this track so we feel confident we will be competitive.” Joseph Burton-Harris
