The GT3 season on iRacing kicked off on the weekend with the inaugural iRacing Bathurst 12 Hour. JBH and Wyvern Racing entered a Mercedes AMG GT3 in what would be a 53 car field. Due to the incredible number of entries in the GT3 category, Wyvern Racing had to settle for a Split 3 start out of the 15 splits. Overall Joseph managed to qualify the car 80th out of over 750 drivers, which resulted in a 10th starting position in split 3. For this race JBH will drive alongside fellow Wyvern Racing teammates Juliano Romagnuolo and Alex Ellis with Sai Andra engineering/spotting/strategising the Wyvern 707 car.
Full race report: After a great opening stint from Juliano, JBH stepped into the car in 5th place overall after Juliano managed to gain 5 positions in the first 2 hours. Over the next hour and a half Joseph managed to navigate his way through the lapped Porsche and GT3 field before finally moving up into a podium position. With just 20 minutes left in the stint before Alex took over, JBH came up on a slow GT3 and Porsche nose to tale going into skyline. The Wyvern 707 Mercedes struck the Porsche side on going down the hill which in-turn forced the car to retire from the damage incurred.
First of all I would like to apologise to the lads at Wyvern Racing for the way it ended.. I came up on the Porsche and GT3 at a much higher speed than I anticipated. The Porsche pulled to the side and looked to be letting both the faster cars by but all of a sudden sped up and must have had no idea that I was along side him. I only run on a single monitor so I had no idea that he was going to run into the side of me until we actually made contact. At the end of the day everyone will have their own opinions on the incident but I could have avoided it. Just sucks so bad because I think at the rate we were going we very well could have gone on to win the race. We will get our head down now for Sebring and hopefully get back on the form we set at Daytona! “
Here is a short highlight reel from the short-lived race..
